Photography and whatever

Hamidah thinking

A shot of my sister Hamidah. A lot not to like about the photo technically, but I love the mood and her pensiveness.

Maya Begins a Snow Angel

My daughter Maya was much younger when this photo was taken. It was her first time making a snow angel and it was just her and I on our way to Sequoia National Park.

Touching

We were in Salzburg, Austria. My daughter Maya spontaneously touched Katrin’s belly. Although it looks like Katrin is pregnant, that didn’t happen until the fall. Loved Salzburg and Europe and my girls.
I liked this photo better in black and white than in color. It seems to highlight the moment for me.

Omi, a Zwickau Photo

This is a photograph of my wife’s Grandmother, Omi, in German. This was taken a few years ago before she passed away. She lived in a retirement home and was incredibly vivacious and expressive, even though she was in her nineties.

Ty and Sam

I love this photo of my brother in law Ty holding my niece Sam. So much love with high cuteness factor.

Peruvian Girl Dancing

Just after sunrise our bus stopped in Yanque a town on the edge of the Colca Canyon in Peru. There was a cadre of people dancing in the early morning light for the tourists. This young girl caught my attention as she danced with the Andes in the background.

Pensive in the Yucatan

I took this shot of my wife on the rough hewn stone steps that led down to the natural pools that are all over the Yucatan. I loved the pensiveness of the moment as she looked down at the water.

Family in Ek-Balaam

At the Eco-hostel I stayed at, they had a walking tour of the village of Ek-Balaam. I met this family on the tour and stayed after the tour had moved on. The woman made tortillas as her daugthers helped. The little one fetched water from a communal water source. Lovely family.

Mom at Alcatraz

Mom sat on a bench in the mess hall in Alcatraz. I asked her to think about her life.
She passed away in January. She was an incredible woman who was both spiritual and insightful.
There is a website that was set up when she passed. Istiharoh.com
